Rarely a day goes by without news of digitization, artificial intelligence and virtual reality having an influence on the workforce. A variety of predictions, both good and bad, have come with the tech talk: more jobs, different jobs, less jobs, even no jobs.
Despite the mix of feedback, there’s no doubt that a skill revolution is under way. This revolution calls for upskilling and workforce adaptation to a fast-changing world where digitization are further integrated into everyday tasks.
Organizations need to work hard in reskilling workers to ensure they are better prepared for the technology of the future. While technology cannot be slowed, what can be done is investing in employees’ skills to increase the resilience of people and their organizations.
To explore this issue, Manpower Group interviewed 18,000 employers in 43 countries. The interviews consisted of questions on automation and how it will impact the number of employees; which functions they think will change the most; and the strategies they’re adopting to ensure they have the skills they need for the future.
