MFG DAY addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after MFG DAY, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.

Supported by a group of industry sponsors and co-producers, MFG DAY is designed to amplify the voice of individual manufacturers and coordinate a collective chorus of manufacturers with common concerns and challenges. The rallying point for a growing mass movement, MFG DAY empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges so they can help their communities and future generations thrive.”

Manufacturing has been a fundamental industry in America for decades, and continues to be a vital asset to our economy today. In order to raise awareness about the importance of manufacturing in our country, a group of manufacturing sponsors and producers organized an event called Manufacturing Day. Manufacturing Day is an annual event that takes place on the first Friday in October, this year October 2, 2015. According to MfgDay.com, “The rallying point for a growing mass movement, MFG DAY empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges so they can help their communities and future generations thrive.” MFG DAY aims to show the world what manufacturing in America looks like, in the hopes of preparing the next generation of manufacturers.

A huge part of the nation wide observance is community planned events and local manufacturing plant tours. In this way citizens can learn about the diversity and scope of manufacturing in their communities, and show their support for this critical industry. In the three years since its inception, Manufacturing Day has grown to more than 1,600 manufacturing plant tours and events with more than 100,000 participants.
