Fastenal reported sales for January were $639.9 million, up 6.4% from the same period a year ago. Daily sales growth was 1.6%. Daily sales growth for the product category Fasteners was down 6%.



The Fastener Distributor Index (FDI) survey for January nearly reached a neutral reading coming in at 49.7 after December’s disappointing 47.5 seasonally adjusted reading. Likewise, the Forward-Looking Indicator (FLI) ticked upward into growth territory reading 50.4. The FLI has now been above 50 in two of the past three months, indicating expectations for a return to growth and expansion ahead. Read full report:

One of the most misunderstood themes between fastener manufacturers and customers is the application of geometric dimensions and tolerances (GDT) on prints. The Fastener Training Institute and the Industrial Fasteners Institute are offering a 2-day course “Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing for Fasteners | February 19 & February 20, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at IFI Headquarters, Independence OH.
