While the Army is continuing work on the next generation of engines and aircraft, modernization of existing platforms, like the UH-60 Blackhawk, AH-64 Apache and CH-47 Chinook is continuing. Since the Army has said they want to fly those platforms for many years, prime contractors like Boeing and Sikorsky are working to improve those aircraft to keep them relevant. 

An example is the CH-47F. The current production model is the Block I, and earlier this month, the Block II hit milestone B, allowing it to proceed into the development phase.
