May 18th was the 9th annual North Coast Fastener Association (NCFA) Distributor Social at the Crowne Plaza in Independence, OH. About 200 fastener professionals gathered for the occasion. In attendance were also representatives from Emerald Expositions (The National Industrial Fastener & Mill Supply Expo) and Mack Brooks Exhibitions, which is introducing its first Fastener Fair USA in 2018.
The event opened with three 15 minute presentations. The first presenter was Alicia Booker, the Vice President of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C). Booker highlighted the importance of training and the rise of the younger workforce. She touched upon areas of gaps in skills, areas of potential improvement, and why the industrial sectors should put effort into training their workforce. Booker has been touring with the Tri-C mobile training unit.
Courtney Harold and Morgan Wilson of Emerald Expositions followed Ms. Booker with a short overview of the 2016 National Industrial Fastener & Mill Supply Expo (NIFMSE) followed by their exciting announcements for the 2017 show, including whiskey tasting and the return of the Circle Bar!
Melissa Magestro and Jessica Boweak closed out the presentations by introducing the audience to Fastener Fair USA. As you may know, Fastener Fair has several global fastener shows, including ones in Mexico, Italy, India, and Turkey. Mack Brooks recently announced that USA is one of two new fastener shows. The inaugural event will take place in April 2018. Breaking free of the norm, Mack Brooks is bringing their full-proof global strategy for exhibition to the USA show by allowing for companies within the full supply chain to be present, including OEMs.
When the presentations concluded, the crowd headed down to indulge in spirits and food while mingling with friends and business partners. Many attendees had the chance to speak with the representatives of both Emerald and Mack Brooks to ask questions and express enthusiasm about these upcoming shows.
Other attendees had the opportunity to visit the excellent Tri-C mobile training unit which was parked out in front of the Crowne Plaza. Fastener News Desk had the opportunity to tour the mobile unit at the M&T Show and speak with Alicia Booker about its offerings the week before. Fastener professionals explored the training options available within the unit and offer their insights into the potential for fastener related training.
As is true every year, the social went smoothly and fastener professionals traveled from far and wide to take part in this enjoyable annual event. We’d like to thank the NCFA for always putting together an enjoyable social, as well as both Emerald and Mack Brooks for being present. Finally, but not least, thank you to Tri-C for their hard work for providing excellent education to students and the industrial workforce. Additionally, we thank them for taking the time to be present at the social. Their training unit was the cherry on top of a can’t-miss event.
