IN THE NEWS:

US port workers and operators reached deal to end East Coast strike last week, Members of the International Longshoremen’s Association, the union representing 50,000 members covered under the contract with the United States Maritime Alliance were back on the job early Friday after the two sides reached an agreement on the key dispute in the strike that started early Tuesday – the scale of wage increases. The tentative agreement gives workers a 62% pay hike over the next six years. The existing contract was extended through Jan. 15, 2025.


Congratulations, Professor Reinhold Würth of the Würth Group. On October 1st he celebrated his 75th anniversary in the fastener industry. Over the years, he has not only turned the former two-man business into a global market leader but also created a unique corporate culture. It is values such as gratitude, appreciation and diversity that make Würth so special. The first-ever Goebel Fasteners World Riveting Congress (WRC2024) in Düsseldorf, Germany, was a tremendous success, attracting over 300 participants from across the globe. The event catered to buyers, distributors, and manufacturers of blind rivet fasteners. Attendees had the opportunity to tour Goebel’s blind rivet manufacturing facility and gain insights into the company’s renowned “Made in Germany” production process. Goebel is a family-owned business that develops, manufactures, and distributes fasteners. Their products include blind rivets, self-tapping screws, sealing washers, drill bits, and more.


The new World Robotics report from the International Federation of Robotics recorded almost 382,000 industrial robots working in US factories, an increase of 12%. Annual installations reached 37,587 units in 2023. This was down 5% but still the third best result in US history. Annual installations rank third in the world behind Japan and China. A large number of investment announcements have been made by the automotive industry, which will create a demand for robots over the next few years. Grainger breaks ground on huge Houston Texas Distribution Center - Houston  Business Journal

Grainger held a groundbreaking event for its new 1.2 million-square-foot Houston Distribution Center in Hockley, Texas, the facility is scheduled to open in 2026, and is expected to generate 400 on-site jobs, continuing their investment in the Texas market.
