In Acquisition News… Fastener Distribution Holdings, doing business as FDH Aero, acquired Unical Defense Inc. for undisclosed terms. Fastener Distribution Holdings is a leading distributor of aerospace fasteners and other c-class components to commercial and defense aircraft manufacturers, subcontractors, and component distributors. Chief Executive Scott Tucker said in a statement “We believe that bringing (Unical) into the FDH family complements and accelerates our broader strategic priority of growth in the global defense aftermarket,”. “This acquisition further reinforces our commitment to high-touch customer service and expands our supplier partnership strategy.”
In Distribution News… The Fastener Distributor Index (FDI) survey for November 2021 saw another small uptick last month with a reading of 57.6 compared to 56.1 the previous month, seasonally adjusted. The Forward-Looking Indicator (FLI) contracted again very slightly, but remained optimistic at 64.0, the 18th consecutive month of positive outlook.
In Manufacturing News… Economic activity in the manufacturing sector grew in November, with the overall economy achieving an 18th consecutive month of growth, say the nation’s supply executives in the latest Manufacturing ISM® Report On Business®. “The November Manufacturing PMI® registered 61.1 percent, an increase of 0.3 percentage point from the October reading of 60.8 percent. The New Orders Index registered 61.5 percent, up 1.7 percentage points compared to the October reading of 59.8 percent.
In Technology News… Universal Robots, the world’s leading collaborative robot provider, says Stanley Engineered Fastening has successfully introduced robotic quality inspection using its collaborative robots. The 15 UR3e cobots act as key components in its brand-new cells for Breakstem autonomous manufacture which have reduced product costs by approximately 10 percent and shortened lead times by up to 70 percent. They are producing 350 million fasteners per annum from across the company’s product range. Within the manufacturing process a UR3e cobot randomly selects a component for batch sampling and performs a pre-programmed quality inspection.
In Fastener Industry Event News… Mack-Brooks Exhibitions, organizer of the Fastener Fair Stuttgart show, announced the new name, logo and style for the show, now called Fastener Fair Global. Fastener Fair Global, the International Exhibition for the Fastener and Fixing Industry will be taking place from March 21-23, 2023, in Stuttgart, Germany, is now also live with a new restyled show website. Mack-Brooks Exhibitions believe that the new brand name reflects more on the international character of the exhibition, with the German show considered the flagship event of the Fastener Fair series.
In Organization News… Women in the Fastener Industry AKA WIFI announced their 2021 Woman of the Year Award winner. The award recognizes exemplary leadership & success in the fastener industry. The recipient has a long & distinguished record of advocacy for the professional advancement of women in the fastener industry. Congratulations to the 2021 Woman of the Year – Nancy Rich, Executive Director of the Midwest Fastener Association, and the Southwest Fastener Association. Nancy Rich was also inducted into the MWFA Hall of Fame and the International Fastener Expo Fastener Industry Hall of Fame in 2021! A perfect trifecta for Nancy.
