What is Manufacturing Day?
Manufacturing Day℠ is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Manufacturing Day officially occurs on the first Friday in October—this year is Oct 6, 2017. Companies and community organizations open their doors and share what manufacturing means to them – the individuals, the jobs, the products, the process and the impact that manufacturing has on our lives and our world.
One of the main goals of Manufacturing Day has always been to get young people motivated to learn more about modern manufacturing. As we open our doors to student groups, local media, and legislators, they are educating the public about the evolution of manufacturing technology. We are inspiring the next generation of skilled workers, and sharing the story of the great work happening in Ohio and Beyond.

MFG DAY’S EFFECTS ON THE PUBLIC PERCEPTION OF MANUFACTURING
Back in 2012, when Manufacturing Day began, they put forth the ambitious goal of affecting the public’s perception of manufacturing with the goal of inspiring more people to pursue manufacturing careers…
ADVANCED MANUFACTURING REQUIRES ADVANCED WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS
In recent years, disruptive technological developments have been steadily transforming the manufacturing industry in the U.S. in what is described as Industry 4.0, or the fourth industrial revolution…
Students are the workforce of the future. This is your opportunity to provide advice about the kinds of careers that your company offers, the type of training and educational coursework you seek when hiring employees. There is no better time to offer comments about opportunities available to dedicated workers with a professional attitude. If there are specific kinds of training or skills that you need and find it hard to hire for, let them know.
Your event can be of any size or shape. The MFG Day event planning resources will help you design an event that fits.

CEME is a stand alone model that has been used on other days, but this year we are having it on this day in hopes of making a bigger impact to the students. It is designed to showcase manufacturing to middle school and high school students and give them a well rounded view of all the disciplines used in manufacturing. A motivational speaker starts them off followed by a hands on experience where they hear from local manufacturers as they see how a project was made. This is an event sponsored by the local career center who invite as many as 800-1000 students who participate during the day. There are 4 sessions throughout the day. If someone outside the school districts invited wanted to participate they can contact me directly at cuttingedgemanufacturingevent@gmail.com.
This is an opportunity for your 6th-10th grade students to participate in a unique experience where they will learn about career opportunities through the eyes of local manufacturers.

MFG DAY PROCLAMATIONS

Proclamations are a great way to get elected officials to recognize and honor manufacturing and Manufacturing DaySM celebrations. Anyone can ask for a proclamation – a manufacturer, a member of the Chamber of Commerce or economic development team from a region, or someone who is serving as an area organizer of MFG DAY events. It’s as simple as picking up the phone and calling the office of your mayor, county board chairman, or congressional representative.
WHAT SHOULD THE PROCLAMATION SAY?
The biggest question we hear at MFG DAY is “what should the proclamation say”? A government office will usually have plenty of general information available about manufacturing in their city, county, or state that they can include in the proclamation. If you are requesting a proclamation and are asked for ideas about what can be written, a great place to go for ideas is the Proclamations page of mfgday.com. There you can look through a large number of already posted proclamations from this year and last year. You’ll come away with lots of good ideas. Once you have obtained a proclamation, be sure to scan it and post it on the proclamations page of mfgday.com for others to see.
