Fastenal’s May sales increased by 1.5% year-over-year, a modest uptick from April’s 0.7% rise. The performance of Fastenal’s product segments was mixed. The company experienced a 4.1% decline in fastener sales during May, which was counterbalanced by a robust 7.5% increase in safety products.
The seasonally adjusted Fastener Distributor Index (FDI) for May saw modest m/m improvement, reading 52.9 vs. 51.6 in April. The FDI continued to expand driven by just one component, supplier deliveries. This month’s Forward-Looking Indicator (FLI) also improved vs. last month and climbed back into expansionary levels, reading 52.8. The FDI is brought to you by the FCH Sourcing Network.
Economic activity in the manufacturing sector contracted in May for the second consecutive month say the nation’s supply executives in the latest Manufacturing ISM® Report On Business®. “The Manufacturing PMI® registered 48.7 percent in May, down 0.5 percentage point from the 49.2 percent recorded in April. The overall economy continued in expansion for the 49th month after one month of contraction in April 2020. A Manufacturing PMI® above 42.5 percent, over a period of time, generally indicates an expansion of the overall economy

FTI Announces Fastener Training Week Chicago August 19-23, 2024
SCHOLARSHIPS:
The Young Fastener Professionals Association Announced their Fastener Training Week Scholarship. YFP is offering members an opportunity to attend Fastener Training Week. Scholarships can be used for any Fastener Training Week program in 2024 or 2025. The FTI Training is valued at $2,800. The deadline to submit your completed application is October 15. The Marc Strandquist Memorial Scholarship Fund will offer one scholarship for Fastener Training Week each year (valued at $2,800 each). The deadline to submit your completed application to the NFDA is August 31, 2024. Applicants will be notified of the Strandquist family’s decision in late September.
