Dockworkers threaten to strike at key U.S. ports over automation and pay. Determined to thwart the automating of their jobs, about 45,000 dockworkers along the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts are threatening to strike on Oct. 1, a move that would shut down ports that handle about half the nation’s cargo from ships. The International Longshoremen’s Union is demanding significantly higher wages and a total ban on the automation of cranes, gates and container movements that are used in the loading or unloading of freight at 36 U.S. ports. GE Aerospace will invest $1 billion over the next five years in its global maintenance, repair, and overhaul network, enabling the company to support a higher volume of shop visits for both its widebody and narrowbody fleets while also reducing turnaround times for its customers around the world. All 19 of GE Aerospace’s MRO and component repair sites will apply funds to upgrade equipment and machines, purchase new tooling, expand and improve facility infrastructure, and accelerate repair technology advancement. Italian Fastener Manufacturer Vimi Fasteners announced growth projects in the U.S., aimed at strengthening their ties with the American market, with U.S. orders already on the rise for the first half of 2024. Vimi is also closely watching the developments of AI and its applications in business and manufacturing. They recently started a collaboration with external companies specialized in implementing AI in manufacturing processes in order to optimize shop floor scheduling and the best use of production assets.

NEFCO announced the official opening of their new 75,000 sf distribution center in Austin, TX. This facility is their 6th distribution center in the United States and the third location in the state of Texas. Source: UNITED WE BUILD®
Packer Fastener distributor of Class C components and other fastener products expands its presence in Kansas City with a new distribution center, making this the company’s 12th location in the US. The news of their new location comes just six months after the distributor opened its first branch in the Kansas City area.
