Preserving the Fastener Industry Hall of Fame Walk with the Traveling Salesman
Before moving to Las Vegas, the National Industrial Fastener & Mill Supply Expo (NIFMSE) was held for many years at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Each year the expo inducted individuals that had made significant contributions in the fastener industry, into the ‘Fastener Hall of Fame’. To honor the recipients a Fastener Hall of Fame walkway had been created with the names of the inductees next to the expo center.
Marty Nolan (aka TravelingSlsman), with this knowledge, decided to visit the walkway in December of 2015. Upon arriving, he noticed construction on the center and was informed by a worker that the walkway would be removed. After a confirmation from the center, Marty decided to take action. In mid-January, Marty informed the center he would retrieve the bricks if no one claimed them. With the assistance from industry friends, the bricks have now been moved to a safe location until a more suitable site is found.
For the audio story of Marty’s “Saving of the Hall of Fame” adventure, listen to Fully Threaded radio’s upcoming Episode #102, which is to be broadcast on Thursday, February 18. Karalynn Sprouse of Emerald Expositions, which now runs NIFMSE, had this to say about the Fastener Hall of Fame rescue:
“We just learned yesterday of this news and we are thrilled he was able to ‘save the bricks’ ….we would like to ask the listeners (of Fully Threaded Radio) to suggest ideas for the bricks. Emerald is listening and we will continue to find ways to commemorate these innovative people in our industry.”
If you do have suggestion, please voice this to Emerald so we can find a great place for these important pieces of fastener history.
We would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to Marty Nolan for investing his time and efforts into saving the Fastener Hall of Fame. Our gratitude knows no limit and we look forward to seeing these Hall of Fame pavers live on.
